Let’s Talk About Holiday Rentals, Christmas in Costa Rica and …. Eggs

Can you feel the winds of change blowin’?
The holiday season is creeping up fast, folks, and things are really starting to heat up in our beloved Costa Rica.
That’s because it’s almost summer in the southern hemisphere. Soon, the tropical rains will subside, skies will turn electric blue and visitors from all over the globe will descend on this fabulous piece of paradise. Escaping frigid temperatures in North America and Europe, these lucky folks will get to experience Costa Rica at its very best — warm, sunny and so much fun!
Unwilling to be left out in the cold this time around? Not a problem. Here’s a bit of high-season travel advice from a YouGetHere Vacation Rentals tourism expert — self-proclaimed, of course — for booking an epic tropical getaway in the coming months.
If You’re Visiting Dominical Between Christmas and Easter, Lock in Your Vacation Villa ASAP

The switch turns on in southern Costa Rica right about the time Santa Clause comes to visit, and for the next four months or so, it’ll be busy in the region.
If you’ve been dreaming of staying in one of our luxury vacation rentals anytime from late December through April, this is the moment to secure your reservation.
At YouGetHere, we have an eclectic variety of rental homes. The Jade House, for example, features three swimming pools and seven bedrooms. Meanwhile, all three Caballitos Del Mar villas are located just steps from the sand in Dominical.
For modern luxury and awe-inspiring views, consider a stay at Villa Maravilla, Casa Komorebi, Tulu Azul, Ballena Royale or Villa Dalu. When you’re ready to bring a large crew along with you, Vista Encanto, Casa Alta Vista and La Libeula are ideal choices.

Searching for tropical charm?
Villa Koora, Casa San Martin Mirador and Casa Pura Vida will definitely check that box. And, of course, there’s Casa En El Cielo, the newest addition to our stable of rental homes. Located just minutes from the world-famous sea caves at Playa Ventanas, Casa En El Cielo offers a true Costa Rican vibe at a great price.

In order to assist those who might be overwhelmed by so many outstanding vacation rental options, we’ve created the following quiz to help decide which villa best suites your needs.
Happy holiday rental hunting!
New Year’s Week is Nearly Full, But Christmas Options Still Remain

At this time, mid-November 2025, only Casa Pura Vida has availability for New Year’s week. But for Christmas week, there are several excellent luxury villas still on the market.
Arriving in the country prior to Christmas eve is always a bit less hectic in terms of travel. Shorter lines will await at customs and more rental car options will be available. And who doesn’t want to open gifts in 85 degree weather?
Were you shut out of a NYE booking at the rental property of your dreams? Turning your attention to the week prior is a nice workaround.
Simply email us directly at reservations@yougethere.com and we’ll assist in finding a dreamy property to spend Christmas at. Furthermore, direct bookings with YouGetHere can save hundreds of dollars in service fees. It’s our gift to you!
Random Question of the Day:
We’re going to end this blog way out in left field.
When things heat up around here, we meet and greet a lot of different clients. The No. 1 question we hear during these interactions is this:
Why Aren’t Eggs in Costa Rica Refrigerated?
Glad you asked.
According to this excellent 2014 piece from our cherished Tico Times, “in Latin America and many other countries, there is no washing step because the refrigeration is expensive. In many countries, the eggs are cleaned while dry, and transported at room temperature. If the eggs stay dry, they keep their natural protection against pathogens.”
The article continues, stating that, by law, “Costa Rica requires eggs to be stored in clean, dry areas, and transported at room temperature out of extreme heat. Any eggs that are wet, broken, or, in the case of any producers who do wash their eggs, unrefrigerated for any period of time after washing, are prohibited from sale.”
Once you get the eggs to your rental house, feel free to put them in the refrigerator. You can read more on this phenomenon right here.
And now you have the answer to a question you didn’t even know you were going to ask at check in.
