The Jade House
The Jade House.
The name itself carries a certain mystique on Costa Rica’s southern Pacific coastline.
Ask a local and they can recall tall tales of a breathtaking property located high in the tree forest, complete with multiple swimming pools, an outdoor billiards table and swim-up bar, and a crazy kids’ room that’s only accessible through a super-secret entrance in the wall.
All of these stories are true, by the way.
The Jade House isn’t just a luxury vacation villa that provides ideal — and well-earned — tanning opportunities under clear-blue skylines. The Jade House is a full on life experience. It’s the kind of place you visit with friends and family, and 10 years later you’re still laughing about the trip. The memories, the photos, the good times — it never really leaves you.
So let’s paint the picture:
This stunning villa is located in the hillside community of Escaleras, between the coastal towns of Dominical and Uvita. The home is ideal for groups of 4-10 adults. There is also capacity for as many as six children, for a maximum of 16 guests (10 adults max). With tremendous joy each year, we welcome highly anticipated friends and family reunions from visitors across the globe.
As far as layout, there are five bedrooms for adults, four of which have on-suite bathrooms and king-size beds. The fifth bedroom has a queen bed with a bathroom down the hall. Each bedroom comes with air-conditioning. There is also a kids’ room downstairs with three bunk beds, a restroom, AC and plenty of space to play. Because of its unique design features, the kids’ room is a huge hit for children in the 3-10 range. There are also a pair of air mattresses available if teenagers need to use the room but are too big for the bunk beds.
Three of the five adult bedrooms are located on the upstairs floor, and each of those rooms features sweeping views of the nearby Pacific Ocean as well as easy access to a large wrap-around balcony. Each room features a king bed, on-suite bathroom with double shower heads and AC. When the ocean tide is low, this upstairs area is the best spot in town for viewing the world-famous Whale’s Tail reef toward the south.
The living area, kitchen, master bedroom and fifth bedroom are all located on the main floor. This is also where the swimming pools and outdoor living and cooking space are found.
While the temperature is pretty much always perfect, there is a warm Jacuzzi tub in the master bedroom that’s great for winding down after a long day of river rafting, or surfing, or sport fishing — or maybe your eyes are just tired from reading too much at the pool. Swing open the master bedroom’s large glass doors and feel the cool ocean breeze whip through the night as you enjoy the bubbling tub and the unique sounds of the surrounding jungle.
Prepping meals in the kitchen is a cinch, too, with a spacious countertop for food prep and a jumbo, double-door fridge for storing plenty of items. In addition, the dining room table seats 10 comfortably. In the living room, you’ll find soft sofas and a flat-screen television that comes equipped with a Netflix movie account. There is also wireless internet and high-quality speaker surround sound throughout the property, both indoors and outdoors.
Now we’ve devoted quite a bit of time to the villa’s interior, but the truth is most of your non-sleeping time will be spent outdoors enjoying Costa Rica’s amazing climate and geography. Simply put, the Jade House has the best outdoor living space in the region.
There are three — three! — swimming pools. So the kids can be in one pool making stadium-level noise while splashing water at the toucans, and Uncle Joe with the bad jokes can be pouring drinks at the swim-up bar, and that gives you a third option to get away from it all and relax at your very own pool, maybe even do a few laps for exercise. It’s a perfect setup!
When you’re not in the pool, you can play a game of billiards or kick back on one of the many poolside lounge chairs. While this is going on, someone else can fire up the gas grill and Spanish frying pan and start cooking fresh fish, local veggies and gallo pinto for dinner. For the best part, you can repeat this routine day after day at your leisure. In fact, you don’t even need to go inside to eat because the outdoor dining table fits 10 as well.
All the type of things that make a vacation go smoother — privacy, convenience, live-on caretakers, a washer and dryer, an ice machine, tour and transportation reservation services, in-home massage and chef scheduling — are included at the Jade House.
If you’re looking to combine all the comforts of modern, upscale living with the creativity of jungle-influenced design for your next vacation, a stay at the Jade House is exactly what the doctor ordered. It is a magical, mystical place, and the legend only continues to grow.
Our guest reviews will give you the scoop on our luxury vacation villas and the Dominical, Costa Rica area.
Imagine being lulled to sleep by the hum of the Rainforest, and waking to the sound of monkeys, then enjoying a different show of wildlife every day as you laze around one of the three swimming pools. The Jade House provided us with ultimate luxury, nestled inside the most beautiful, untouched Costa Rican Rainforest. Our party of 13 consisted of children aged 8-16, and adults 21-50. The Jade House provided us with ultimate luxury, nestled inside the most beautiful, untouched Costa Rican Rainforest. Our party of 13 consisted of children aged 8-16, and adults 21-50. The property provided plentiful space and the layout means that there's a large central family area but also lots of private areas where the younger adults and teenagers could escape to. We wanted a holiday which would combine relaxation with action and that is exactly what we got. We spent half of our week-long stay relaxing in the spectacular property, enjoying the breathtaking Ocean views from the pool or one of the terraces, cooking on the large outdoor gas BBQ or Paella stove, drinking cocktails from the swim-up bar, saying 'Hi' to the visiting Sloths and Toucans......basically enjoying Paradise. Then we made the most of the excursions organised very efficiently by You Get There. Some great family memories were made on the Savagre River Rafting Tour, and the AVT jungle experience which included swimming under a natural waterfall. On another day, the men all headed off for a day fishing at sea (catching a Sail Fish and a 40lb Dorado) while the girls visited nearby Domical to enjoy watching the surfers and browsing the varied shops in this little seaside town. We finished off our stay with amazing poolside massages, again organised by our hosting You Get There. We loved the Costa Rican people, who welcomed us everywhere we went, and we enjoyed the fact that this was in many way a no frills holiday, yet with the most beautiful, luxurious, peaceful, functional home to return to after every trip out. The property's caretaker and housekeeper live in a neighbouring house within the grounds and provide a great service without interfering with your break. I would highly recommend this holiday and this property. Make sure you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle, and make sure you book some excursions to make the most of the area around you. Also, head to the Jolly Roger (About 300 meters away from the property) for the best Chicken Wings and beer in Costa Rica.Read LessLuxury in the RainforestJuly 26, 2017
