Rare Air: Welcome to Casa Alta Vista

Staying at Casa Alta Vista is like taking a stairway to heaven.
Actually, it’s more like driving a 4×4 rental vehicle to the Pearly Gates, but you get the gist.
The journey to the top begins for most visitors in San Jose, home to Costa Rica’s largest international airport.
After touching down on Tico soil, you’ll meet a friendly immigration officer for a passport stamp. Following that exchange, you’ll meander through the duty-free section of the airport, collect your baggage and then — viola! — you’re outside in that warm Central American sunshine.
From there you’ll track down your shuttle driver or car rental company. Shortly thereafter you’ll be on your way, heading southwest toward the tropical vacation destination of Dominical.
Having traversed nearly a third of the country — don’t forget to stop and see the crocodiles at Tarcoles Bridge, which is the midway point of your journey south — you’ll end up in fun-loving Dominical. Here, a member of the YouGetHere Vacation Rentals staff will meet your crew in town and everyone will head up to Casa Alta Vista for the check-in.
From the coastal highway, it’ll take about 10 minutes to reach the property. The dirt road can be steep and damp at times, which is why a 4×4 vehicle is required.
As you climb the mountain, you’ll pass by Scala Restaurant, a top dining choice in the region. This is a perfect place for a sunset meal and/or chilled libation. Go ahead and treat yourself to something nice there at some point during your stay.
Thick jungle canopy continues as the elevation rises. Loved ones in the car tend to get giddy with anticipation as the seconds crawl past and you bear down on Casa Alta Vista. Energy often becomes palpable. This is a totally natural phenomenon.
At last, you’re here: Casa Alta Vista!
Pulling into the driveway, the wraparound decks on the second and third floors quickly grab everyone’s attention. And the palapa on the edge of the property looks pretty rad, too. Check out all those crazy views of the Pacific Ocean below. Absolute insanity!
It won’t take long for someone in your group — likely a man — to remove a piece of clothing, sprint toward the swimming pool and launch themselves into the water like a cannonball. That person will then emerge from the water and yell: “WHOO HOO!” Others will clap and holler back.
The vacation is now on.
Eventually everyone will venture through the villa, selecting bedrooms and unloading groceries into one of two refrigerators (oh yeah, we’ve got two fridges here).
Kids and young adults with impeccable knee cartilage are typically first to make it up to the crow’s nest, located on the spacious third floor. Here, additional outdoor furniture and awe-inspiring views await. This is probably the most peaceful place in the house. At least until the howler monkeys come by and start groaning and beating their chests. Give it a break, guys.
If all that isn’t quite enough, the homeowners at Casa Alta Vista dropped another little gem on the property in 2024.
The villa now features a rooftop lounge that’s completely separate from the house. So if anyone wants to stay up late and have a good time, they now have a spacious area away from the bedrooms to do so. It’s an incredible addition to an already amazing vacation property.
