We recently featured several beautiful beachfront villas on our blog, but now let’s all tip our heads backwards and take a look up at some of our ocean view mountaintop luxury properties. It might take a few minutes longer to drive to each house in a 4×4 rental car, but the cool breeze, endless views of the Pacific and epic sunset photos that await will be more than worth the scenic drive.

Ballena Royale

Ballena Royale was made for outdoor living. This stylish getaway features an ideal setup for swimming, wildlife viewing and, of course, grilling, eating and enjoying beverages poolside. The living area, swimming pool, bedrooms, gazebo/palapa and pool bar all feature storybook jungle-to-ocean views. Located in the lush mountains of Escaleras, between the southern Pacific coastal towns of Dominical and Uvita, Ballena Royale sparkles and shines with every footstep through this lovely property. You may even be lucky enough to spot a blue whale navigating the Pacific shoreline below.

Villa Details:

Each bedroom has an air-conditioner unit, en-suite bathroom and a safe for personal belongings. An outdoor tub and shower are the main attractions of the master bedroom, which offers a king bed. Two upstairs rooms are split with a balcony in between. Belly up to a gorgeous wooden bar or let the sounds of the water fountain lull you to sleep in a comfortable lounge chair. When you’re feeling spry, do a few laps in the infinity pool or partake in some yoga exercise over at the palapa. The minimum age for all guests is 13 years old.

Don’t look any further. This home was one of the most beautiful gems I’ve ever vacationed in. You honestly can’t get a better view, along with an infinity pool, comfy lounging options, did I mention the VIEW?! It’s breathtaking.

What a view from the pool and patio area and lots of separate areas to just relax. There’s even a resident sloth nearby, see if you can spot him. What a great place.

The house is just as amazing as it looks in the listing. We loved all the wildlife — the sloth, many beautiful birds and lizards, and blue morpho butterflies. Every vista is gorgeous, especially the view of the Whale’s Tail.

Villa Oro Verde

Have you ever longed to completely disappear for a week, doing nothing but lounging poolside, soaking in the epic ocean views and watching the wildlife play in the jungle canopy below? That’s exactly why many of our guests have chosen Villa Oro Verde. A private and luxurious escape, away from everything, where you can spend your time rejuvenating as the stress of daily life melts away. Enjoy cooler temperatures at this mountaintop escape, almost 2,000 feet above the mighty Pacific Ocean. This villa is located in the highly-desired gated community of Costa Verde Estates, which features numerous walking trails, a helicopter pad and a tennis court.

Two of the three bedrooms are located on the ground floor, with the master bedroom on the second level. Each bedroom features a king bed, air-conditioning unit and en-suite bathroom. All three bedrooms also have fantastic jungle-to-sea sightlines, highlighted by a wrap-around deck in the master bedroom. Villa Oro Verde is like a spellbinding scene from one of those Jurassic Park movies, minus the Pterodactyl flybys. Though toucan flybys will likely be numerous. Children must be at least 13 to stay at Villa Oro Verde.

The picture really does not do this house justice. It’s literally at the top of a mountain, and the view is amazing! The house itself is amazingly beautiful.

Villa de Oro was everything we could have hoped for. It was the perfect mountain getaway with stunning views and an abundance of wildlife around us. It was just myself and my wife on our honeymoon on the trip and we loved it.

This location was so perfect for relaxing. We never left the villa, thankfully we went shopping first. We utilized all of the amenities while there. It was peaceful and enjoyable. The communication from the host was great. We used two of the recommended vendors for private chefs and massages and I highly recommend them both.

Casa Alta Vista

Tulu Azul

Count your lucky stars you’re staying at Tulü Azul, because the only thing between you and the ocean view is a stunning infinity pool, giving guests a bird’s-eye view of Costa Rica’s most inspiring natural landscapes. Privately gated, you’ll arrive into a tranquil, resort-style courtyard. This prime location atop Lagunas mountain in Dominical, dotted along Costa Rica’s southern Pacific coastline, offers a full retreat from the stressors of everyday life. Simply put, Tulü Azul has some serious star power.

Villa Details:

The villa features four bedrooms and four and a half baths. The master suite is located on the main level, with multiple sliding glass doors opening out onto a wrap-around deck. It has a king-sized bed, walk-in closet, and a gorgeous spa-like bathroom that feels like your own mini-wellness sanctuary. Upstairs, the first bedroom has a king-size bed with en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning and ocean views from any location. Casa Tulu Azul was exactly as described! The photos don’t do the view justice. Sunsets were simply stunning!

The outdoor showers were amazing and one with nature. The gym was a big bonus and our older children really enjoyed working out every day in the gym. The pool was also a wonderful place to gather and outdoor meals were enjoyed by all.

Tulu Azul — nestled into the mountains of the Baru Rain Forest near Dominical, Costa Rica — is quite simply…spectacular.

Meridian House

When you’re staying at Meridian House, you’re vacationing in style. This villa is located at the top of the mountain, in the coveted gated community of Costa Verde Estates, which features a tennis court, helicopter pad and walking trails galore. Watch from the pool as the world-famous Whale’s Tail reef appears and disappears each day with the changing tides. Unbelievable sightlines and sunsets await at this luxury villa.

Meridian House has capacity for six guests. Each of the three bedrooms in the villa features an en-suite bathroom and air-conditioner unit. Two of the bedrooms, including the master bedroom, have king beds while the third bedroom has a pair of double beds.

This property is gorgeous. The view in every direction is breathtaking. From the back, you can clearly see Uvita, Whale’s Tail, Playa Hermosa, and then Dominicalito toward the north. The sunsets are beautiful. From the front, you can see the mountains. One of my favorite views is from the floor to ceiling windows of the master bath!

Meridian House is amazing!! We travel to Uvita a few times a year and this is by far the best property we have stayed at.
