Fun, Sun and Games Galore at a Premier Rental Property in the Tropics

We began this blog talking about having fun on vacation.

More than any home in our rental queue, Villa Aura is built to have a blast. Are you into playing billiards? No problem, there’s a billiards table outdoors that faces the ocean. How about foosball? Oh, there’s one of those knob-twisting tables as well. What about some shuffleboard action? You better believe the house has a shuffleboard surface, all salted up and ready to go. Ready to test your luck with a giant Jenga game? Go for it, because there’s one of those, too.

And that’s just at the villa. From Villa Aura it’s easy to drive, or even walk, down to Dominical beach. Once there you can surf, bodyboard or swim in ocean water that averages 85 degrees Fahrenheit all year long. A lot of surfing lessons go down near the lifeguard tower at Dominical beach, if that’s a sport you’ve ever wanted to conquer. Perhaps you’ll be the next Kelly Slater or Carissa Moore, dominating the waves like a true pro.

Shorefishing is also popular at the rivermouth on the north end of the beach. Head upriver just a tad, and it’s possible to reel in snook underneath the Baru bridge. There’s plenty of fishing equipment for sale in Uvita, about 20 minutes south of the villa, in case you don’t want to pack your own ocean gear.

Airport Transportation Options Include Rental Cars, Shuttles and Regional Flights

Let’s say that you’ve made the leap and are locked in for a week or more at Villa Aura. First off, congratulations on landing the coolest vacation villa in town. It’s going to be the trip of a lifetime. Prepare to see a bunch of incredible wild animals — sloths, white-faced and howler monkeys have all been spotted nearby — and rainbow sherbert sunsets each evening.

Most likely, with a bigger group, you’ll have guests arriving into San Jose airport (SJO) from various locations. Options for getting to Dominical from the airport are threefold. 

Guests can rent 4×4 vehicles at the airport and drive south. The trip takes about 3 ½ hours along paved highways. Shuttle service is another option. We know a local company that can bring large groups directly to the property in one or two shuttle vans. These are high-end, air-conditioned vehicles that will stop along the route as you please.

These are the two transportation choices we recommend as the easiest to organize.

Commuter flight from San Jose to Quepos

A third option is to take a small commuter flight from San Jose to Quepos. From Quepos, the drive to the property takes about 30 minutes. There are two companies that fly this route on a regular basis, SANSA Airlines and Costa Rica Green Airways. Both offer charter and public flights. Remember, these are small planes so luggage can be an issue if you’re packing bulk.
