Hitting the links is another great outdoor activity to partake in during your stay in southern Costa Rica.
Only a half-hour drive south of Dominical sits San Buenas Golf Resort & Spa, a beautiful nine-hole layout that’s open to the public seven days per week from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. San Buenas is located in the town of San Buenaventura and is less than three kilometers off the Pan-American Highway.
The par-37 course offers unique challenges for all skill levels.
Measuring from the black tee boxes, San Buenas’ average hole distance is 406 yards. Its longest hole is the 523-yard, par-5 eighth hole. At 195 yards from tee to green, the par-3 fifth is the course’s shortest. Water can easily come into play several holes, none more so than the grueling 428-yard, par-4 seventh, which handicaps at the course’s toughest. Hit it too far right on the seventh and your golf ball will be swimming with the fishes.
Laid with Australian Paspalum grass, San Buenas’ putting greens are laced with mild slopes and detailed speed reads. Because of the rapid growth of the surrounding jungle, the rough in and around most fairways present a unique set of challenges.
Per person rates are as follows: Walk nine holes ($40); Walk 18 holes ($60); Nine holes with a cart ($55); 18 holes with a cart ($80). Club rentals are $25 with left- and right-handed options available.
The course also features a driving range. There is currently no clubhouse on the property.
Reservations are accepted over the phone. It is recommended to have reservations but not required. For more information, contact San Buenas at (506) 2786-5553.
