Our family of 4 (including two teens) stayed at Pura Vida during the green season and we all agreed that it was the single best vacation we've ever taken as a family. What we loved about this villa: The location (Dominical isn't touristy at all...yet the restaurants and attractions were top-rate.) The pool (and having it partly covered meant that we could swim even at mid-day). The wildlife (we saw more monkeys and toucans in our yard than we did on our tour of the national parks :) The price (we looked at many choices and I'm convinced this is the best-value villa on the southern pacific coast.) Couple this with the smart & considerate British owner (who's available to help but also allows his guests complete privacy) and we are ready to return.

Sporting spectacular sightlines along Costa Rica's incredible southern Pacific coastline, Villa la Luna is the ultimate tropical getaway destination.

This fantastic 3 bedroom, 3.5 bathroom villa wrapped up construction in October 2015, and the results are nothing short of breathtaking. From ultramodern amenities to 180-degree ocean views from all over the house, a Costa Rican vacation at Villa la Luna is paradise personified.

Located on the mountainside community of Escaleras, approximately 1,250 feet above sea level and just 20 minutes from the beaches of Dominical, Villa la Luna features sweeping views of the world famous "Whale's Tail" reef at Bahia Ballena National Park, fresh fruit trees dotting the property that are ripe for the picking, a 30-foot Balinese-inspired swimming pool, and intimate privacy for you and all of your guests.

As you enter the villa's electronic gate, a manicured driveway leads to the home and its spacious 2-car garage. Walk through the handcrafted wooden doors and be prepared to be blown away by the villa's completely modern feel and cool ocean breezes.

The kitchen is spacious and fully equipped to prepare meals for friends and family, with all types of cooking utensils, a large counter top and sitting area, stove, microwave and dishwasher for easy cleanup. A large, gas barbecue is stationed next to an outdoor wooden table near the pool, and serves as an ideal location to grill fresh fish and sip on cold drinks while catching up on all those conversations that may have slipped by with the passage of time.

With a shallow lounge section for young children or water chairs, as well as a deeper area for swimming laps, this swimming pool is one of the most user-friendly you'll find in the region.

Each of the three bedrooms features an on-suite bathroom and shower, air conditioning unit and teak flooring. The master bedroom has a king bed, walk-in shower with full ocean view, a walk-in closet and flat-screen television. The second bedroom features a pair of double beds, TV with DVD player and pool access. Bedroom 3 has a double bed with an ocean view, too.

There is wireless internet throughout Villa la Luna, and a 60-inch flat-screen beams sports, news and entertainment programs via SKY satellite television. The home also has a washer and dryer unit and a large sofa lounger in the front room.

One of the best things about Villa la Luna -- besides the incredible sightlines and abundant wildlife, from white-faced monkeys to tucans -- is its proximity to the towns of Dominical and Uvita, both of which are less than a 20-minute drive from the front door. In those towns you'll find grocery stores, souvenir shops, pharmacies, restaurants, beaches with lifeguards and much more. And, of course, there's also Bar Jolly Roger just 3 minutes down the dirt road, where you can purchase great food, cold libations and hear live music.

If the sounds of howler monkeys in the morning and taking in rainbow sunsets in the evening seem like the perfect itinerary for your next vacation, consider a stay at Villa la Luna. You've worked hard for it, so you might as well shoot for the moon.

Great Staff - Great Stay

First off I would like to thank the owner of Villa la Luna for employing the right staff for their day-to-day operations. From their concierge to the property manager, cleaning crew and the gardener. All were very well equipped, trained, and prepared...TOP NOTCH! Thank you. We originally booked our family vacation (myself, my wife three children and my elderly mom ) to Costa Rica with another property, BUT after receiving a prompt response back from Villa la Luna, I knew that we had made the wrong choice, forfeited our original deposit and booked with them immediately. From the beginning we knew this property was special, but we didn't realize to what extent until we actually arrive. From our first communication, to the attention to detail once we arrived, to the follow up after our visit.  We have traveled to around the world to many exotic locations and have stayed at all types of bed and breakfast, AirBNB, 5 star hotels and it is a relief to actually get what was promised from the onset, as well as what we paid for! Also the pictures do not do this property justice. You will not be disappointed! During our stay we received an email from the owner letting us know that he would like to send a maid to do some complimentary light housekeeping etc. We of course agreed and scheduled a mutually beneficial time for everyone while we were out on a horseback excursion to the waterfalls. They provided us with not only the cleaning, but fresh fruit, flowers in the kitchen/master bath area, made the beds, took out the trash, and even washed one of our vehicles as we rented two vehicles for our party of 6. WOW! This property was also a great choice for my 70 + year old mother since it is a single level property and the lot is level as well. My children elementary age to high school also enjoyed the property and the area. They were occupied with their interests which my wife and I enjoyed.
Again we can't "Thank You!" guys enough and we are definitely looking for another time to visit Villa la Luna again next year. The time we spent here was not enough and I did not want to leave. Next year we will just have to stay longer. Problem solved! Great job, great staff, great ownership, and great value!  Warm Regards!

Best Vacation Ever!
Thank you for one of the best vacations in years! The home was very clean when we arrived and after a long trip down from Maryland it was a great surprise to wake up with that amazing view right down onto the Whales Tail sand bar! The kids had a blast in the pool at at the beach and we BBQ'd almost every night. We booked a boat trip to go fishing and had the surprise of seeing whales up close and dolphins that came right to the boat. We visited the nearby waterfalls and the surfing was great while we were there!  We will defiantly be back! See you next year.

Amazing with amazing views...
Wow! If you're impressed by the pictures of this home, you won't be disappointed once you are at Villa la Luna. Our family of four (2 boys ages 13 & 11) stayed at the home for one week and truly did not want to leave on the 7th day, which is unusual for me because I'm normally ready to move on. The home is well appointed, clean and comfortable, and the views from nearly every vantage point are truly spectacular. The owners were responsive prior to the trip, and the property managers (caretaker and concierge) were accessible and very helpful at all points during our stay. The road up to the house is rough (approx. 1 miles), but nothing our basic rental 4WD couldn't handle with ease (in LOW). By the end of the trip, we were used to the road and it was nearly a non-event. The mountainside is scattered with plenty of "nice" to "luxury" homes, so we never felt out of place or unsafe. Once you're off the mountain, it is about equal distance/time to Uvita (south) or Dominical (north), which means you're within 15 minutes of many good restaurants and a few groceries. I would highly recommend Villa La Luna to anyone, especially family and friends. Anyone visiting this region of Costa Rica should be prepared for: 3.5 hour drive from San Jose Airport, dirt/rocky roads, and quirky systems (utilities/slower internet/cell coverage) - none of this is a reflection of Villa la Luna but I'd suggest adjusting your expectations for a slower pace throughout the day, which hopefully is desired on a vacation

Villa La Luna Was The Perfect Home For My Costa Rican Vacation
I was completely blown away the second I arrived on the property. Electronic gates opened up to a beautiful scene of impeccably landscaped grounds with the house privately set back in the rainforest. I immediately knew that Villa La Luna was the right choice for me and it was everything that I hoped for and more. Upon entering the house, you will immediately see one of the most amazing ocean views you will find anywhere in the world. The home is open and spacious with vaulted ceilings and sliding glass doors that open the entire living space to the outdoors. The patio area is completely covered so you can use the outdoor grill and dine outside even when it is raining. All of the bedrooms are comfortable with private bathrooms, ocean views and sliding glass doors with direct access to the pool area. Everyone in our group spent a ton of time just sitting in the infinity pool and just gazing out at the ocean view, which is just what a relaxing vacation is all about.  The location is everything you imagine when you close your eyes and think of Costa Rica. Colorful Toucans in the trees, wild Howler monkeys and White Face monkeys jumping from branch to branch and of course that amazing ocean view. The home is close to a popular American style sports bar called "The Jolly Roger". This is a very convenient place to get burgers, wings and beers after a day of touring Costa Rica. The beaches in the area are tropical and uncrowded and there are a ton of activities to do. Zip lining, horseback riding, waterfall hikes, surfing, fishing, diving and much more. The owner was attentive to all of our needs and made sure our trip was perfect from beginning to end. If you are considering a trip to Costa Rica, Villa La Luna will not disappoint!

Absolute Bliss!!
This property is one of those rare finds that leaves you just an awe the minute you open the front door.  We were blown away by the view but it was the villa itself that made the stay so amazing.  It's perfectly laid out for entertaining as well as relaxing by the pool which is insanely nice.  We saw monkeys and toucans, iguanas and sloths.  James the owner was a pleasure to work with.  Without a doubt the nicest home we have ever stayed in. We will be back soon!!

Otherworldly views
We spent a week "Villa la Luna", a clean, modern house perched high above the rainforest and the Pacific.  The huge wall of glass doors offers spectacular views of the whales tail and the Osa Peninsula from every room.  Very comfortable & well-designed home.  There is a beautiful infinity pool with a big sun shelf for lounging (the owner builds pools in the Atlanta area).
The property managers provide concierge service if needed, and they're available for recommendations, booking tours, etc.   But the house is so comfortable, we mostly stayed put.  We listened a chorus of howler monkeys every morning with our coffee from the patio.  And we bought super fresh tuna & Mahi from the fish monger near La Parcela, and grilled out for a sunset dinner....amazing time. We've been coming down to the Dominical area for many years ... this is the nicest property we've rented. We look forward to staying here again. Note:  a 4-wheel drive vehicle is recommended for the drive up from the Costenera highway.

Great Retreat
This was a God send.  I truly needed a place to get away and relax and the was the perfect place to stay within the wonderful atmosphere that only Costa Rico can provide.  Clean, great amenities and I will return for sure since my stay was so brief this time.

Outstanding Vacation Rental!
Our family vacationed in this fabulous oasis in Escaleras. The house and property are absolutely stunning. The ocean view is unbelievable and the constant breeze from the sea allowed us to keep the doors and windows open.  We could hear the wild life all around us making the vacation so much fun for the whole family. Gene, the property manager, is great and he made us feel so welcome.  Gene had so many suggestions of activities around us we didn’t know where to start.  The owner was very personable and made us feel at home, and he was very quick to respond to any questions we had.We were so close to a number of beautiful beaches since we were between Dominical and Uvita.  The house has a gorgeous infinity edge pool, so we spent a lot of time in the pool and took advantage of the outdoor living space that really is a little slice of paradise. We will definitely be back in the near future to repeat the fantastic experience!

Absolutely Incredible!!!!!!
If you're looking for a place to stay in the Dominical/Uvita area,  look no further and book this house. We came here with our family and really enjoyed the trip, but being able to stay in this house was definitely the highlight. All the rooms have sliding doors that open up to a gorgeous view of the Pacific Ocean and the jungle. We saw toucans, colorful butterflies, and heard howler monkeys every day. The pool is perfect- the right temperature and also very well-maintained and clean. All of the fixtures and appliances in the house are brand-new so it has a very luxurious and modern feel. The staff were great hosts and gave us a lot of recommendations for things to do-  all of which were really fun. The close proximity to Dominical made excursions away from the property easy and convenient. I had never been to this area of Costa Rica before but can't wait to come back. There is so much to do – from beaches to waterfalls, surfing, hiking, etc.  It really does feel like an untouched paradise. If you decide to stay at Villa Luna, just make sure you give yourself enough time because you won't want to leave.
