We stayed at Casa Pura Vida in Dominical and the property was just fantastic! It's nestled in the rainforest with perfect view of the Pacific Ocean out front! More than that, the manager, Neil, was amazing at making our stay most enjoyable. He had the best suggestions on where to go, where to eat, and even sent us to beaches and waterfalls that were totally private and exclusive. He also made it easy to find the property (a rare treat when traveling in a country with limited signage) and was even prepared with driving directions back to the airport. He did a great job in helping us pick the type of adventures we wanted to go on while we were there. We truly enjoyed our week-long stay (it wasn't long enough!) and saw more wildlife in the backyard than we did anywhere else. It was a truly magical experience that was managed expertly.

Nestled within one of the most exclusive private communities in the southern zone of Costa Rica, Gema Escondida truly is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. As you pass through the private, gated entrance you are surrounded by lush jungle canopies brimming with birds, monkeys, iguanas and tons of other wildlife. As you step through the glass doors to Gema Escondida, you’ll be greeted by an absolutely breathtaking ocean view.

Set more than 1,100 feet above sea level, the villa features one of the most sought-after sightlines around, that of the spectacular natural formation known as the Whale's Tail. This rocky reef, which was naturally formed by the ocean waves into the shape of a whale’s tail, can be viewed from multiple spots in the villa during low tide.

In fact, at no point will you go without this spectacular ocean view as the kitchen, dining room, living room and bedrooms have all been designed to maximize the feel of being perched high above the beautiful blue pacific. From your spot on the living room sofa, which is the shade of the sea, gaze out over a bubbling jacuzzi and refreshing infinity pool, out into the ocean and experience the full relaxation of a luxury beach vacation in tropical paradise.

Gema Escondida offers teens and adult guests a one-of-a-kind luxury experience, capturing the essence of indoor-outdoor living perfectly, and can sleep 6 people in beds and room for 2 more on inflatable bed. Due to its design, the house isn’t suited for children under 13 years of age. Construction of this premier villa, which features two bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms in the main villa, plus a guest house, was completed in mid 2017 and no detail has been overlooked.

With state-of-the-art Whirlpool amenities, marble counters and some fancy lighting fixtures, this luxe all-white ocean-view kitchen will please the chef in your group. Pull up a stool at the breakfast bar while the Costa Rican coffee is brewing. And the top-of-the-line built-in BBQ with outdoor fridge, counter and sink make it a cinch to grill up fresh local fish poolside.

Beside the kitchen is a dining area with a full ocean view and seating for eight. And in the living area are two sofas, a television and coffee table. The sliders fully open to blend the outdoor and indoor spaces. The patio outside offers plenty of lounge chairs and seating near the pool.

The villas two bedrooms are located upstairs and feature ocean views and walk-out balconies with seating perfect for sunsets and stargazing. Each room has an expansive king-size bed, en-suite bathroom and air-conditioning unit. One bathroom features a dual showerhead, and an additional outdoor shower is located near the pool.

About 50 yards from the main villa is the guest house, equipped with a king-size bed, walk-in wardrobe and bathroom with shower.

The villa also comes equipped with wireless internet service, covered parking for two cars, a secured safe for your valuables as well as a laundry room with a washer and dryer unit. There is an additional blowup mattress in the villa as well.

This luxurious vacation villa is located in the Costa Verde property development, about 20 minutes off the coastal highway and almost directly centered between the towns of Dominical and Uvita, where you can find restaurants, grocery stores and pharmacies. The road to the development features both dirt and concrete, and a 4x4 vehicle is required. There is a security gate to enter the grounds with a full-time guard on duty. This area is extremely safe and incredibly beautiful. Because it’s located high in the cloud forest, the temperature here is often 10 degrees cooler than down at the beach.

As guests in the Costa Verde Estate development, your group will have access to the best outdoor tennis court in the southern zone, a workout room adjacent to the tennis court, a large outdoor picnic area and a helicopter pad in case of serious medical emergencies. Tennis rackets and balls are provided by the house, so there’s little need to pack your playing gear for the trip.

Gemma Escondida is for anyone looking for adventure and complete relaxation.
The house is a short and serene drive up the mountain and through a security gate. As we arrived at the Casa, I was blown away by how beautiful and spacious the house looked. Walking into the house - you are hit by the smell of the ocean & words can't even describe how absolutely breath taking the view of the ocean and the Whale's Tail is. The house was beautifully built - the modernity and the openness of the house makes it feel inviting and luxurious. Thanks to the large windows surrounding the house we almost never missed out on opportunities of seeing the abundance of wildlife outside - I saw many different kinds of butterflies, toucans, frogs, and howler monkeys. Since we visited during the rain season, everyday the clouds would roll into mountains in the afternoon and the house would literally be in the clouds - which was super cool and amazing to experience. The rooms are gorgeous and simple - the beds are handmade from local wood and were extremely comfy. Everyone in my family also got a robe on arrival as well to use for our stay! My favorite part of our room was the shower - it was a rainfall shower and had windows in the shower so I could watch the wildlife as I took a relaxing shower. During our stay, we went on a snorkeling trip to the island Cano which is an island you can actually see from the property (if the weather is clear you will be able to spot Cano straight ahead from the pool). During the snorkeling trip we saw whales breeching and dolphins jumping from the water. We also went on the ATV tour through the mountains. Both excursions were extremely fun and I highly recommend doing both. Overall, this trip was by far one of my favorite vacations. Being in a house that beautiful and inviting truly made me not want to leave Costa Rica. Yet, it is a perfect escape and truly is a hidden gem for anyone

Stunning Modern hope! No detail was overlooked!!
This beautiful home is a must see in person. The pictures of this home do not do it justice! When we got to the home we were all taken back on how beautiful this home was. Every detail of this home was carefully thought of. I have been to a couple of other homes in this area and none of them come close to the beauty and design of this home. Everything is very open and the doors to the pool slide open which I thought to be very convenient and very cool. My favorite part of the house is that you are able to see the gorgeous whale tale from every spot in the house. Nothing says your on vacation like waking up to a gorgeous view of the ocean. Unlike most homes, this one has a hot tub that we actually used a lot. We came during the rainy season so the nights were a little cooler and it was nice to sit in the hot tub. Many restaurants with beautiful views are near. We also, enjoyed snorkeling and quad riding through the jungle. I enjoy grilling back in the states and this house has a built in grill on the patio area!! The grill was awesome and used every night we didn't go out to eat. I can't say enough good things about this place. By far my favorite house I've been to and will definitely be visiting this home again!
