My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at Toucan Alley this past January for ten wonderful days; from the minute we arrived on a late Wednesday night Neil made us feel welcome and went out of his way to get us settled in after a long day of traveling from the cold Northeast. We were immediately captivated by the beautiful accommodations. The home is decorated and designed to put you immediately at ease….but the best was yet to come. We awoke the next morning to the sound of Howler monkeys and the jungle coming to life around us within our own private 16 acres! As we took our first glance out from our master bedroom suite, words cannot describe the surrounding beauty and the awe inspiring blue Pacific, from our 180 degree panoramic view. My wife and I have had the privilege of traveling to many beautiful places but truly cannot think of a place that had more to offer in sheer beauty and diversity of things to do. We are typically very active people and love to explore the different places that we visit….but for the first time we really never felt the need to leave our accommodations at Toucan Alley, as it had everything we could ask for in its relaxing awe inspiring location. We did take an excursion on horseback up to Nauyaca Falls which was amazing and visited two of the many national parks and beaches…but were most happy just to stay in our wonderful Villa looking out over our jungle paradise and relaxing in the infinite pool. Thanks again Neil for always being available when called upon but also respecting our privacy which is what we truly desired most. Costa Rica is a magical place which we look forward to returning to many times in the future.

Imagine staying in a picturesque Costa Rican vacation villa that’s just steps from the warm Pacific Ocean, a place where you can hear the thundering waves cracking on the sand and witness toucans taking flight in the morning light.

Well, Caballitos Del Mar #2 is such a place, an incredible rental home that sits on the water’s edge in one of the most sought-after destinations on the planet. For the outdoor enthusiast or hard-working traveler looking to escape the hustle and bustle of 9-to-5 life, this is an ideal vacation destination. And the kids? Oh, there going to absolutely love this setup, too.

This three bedroom, three bathroom, beachfront villa features modern, stainless steel appliances including a refrigerator, oven, microwave and dishwasher. The home also contains a flat-screen television with cable access, Internet service, air-conditioning units in all of the bedrooms, a washer and dryer, security safe, and an outdoor shower with barbeque. In addition, the villa has a swimming pool that’s ideal for working on your winter tan, reading a book from cover to cover or letting the kids go cannonball crazy from sun up to sun down.

The spacious two-story home has a bedroom, bathroom and living area on the first floor and two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a TV viewing area upstairs. The bedrooms feature queen, twin and single beds, and each bedroom has its own private patio with brilliant ocean sightlines.

Caballitos Del Mar #2 sits adjacent to two other villas (Caballitos Del Mar #1 and #3) that were built with a similar style. The three villas are private and can be rented separately or, for large groups conducting weddings or reunions, they can be rented all together. And while the beach out front is public, it is rarely visited by tourists or locals. For most of your stay, you’ll have the sand and waves all to yourself. Each villa can sleep as many as eight adults.

Caballitos Del Mar #2 is located in the quaint beach town of Dominicalito, which is 2 miles south of Dominical. The home is situated just west of the coastal highway, making for incredibly easy access to the town’s restaurants and bars. There are, in fact, a pair of restaurants that are within a short walk of the villa. Almost any home you rent in the Dominical area will require a 4x4 vehicle to access. Caballitos Del Mar #2, however, does not require a 4x4 car. And if you didn’t want to rent a car, opting instead to travel by taxi or bus, the location of this home is ideal.

There are a ton of wonderful outdoor activities to partake in near Caballitos Del Mar #2, including white-water rafting down the Savagre or Coto Brus rivers, hikes to magnificent waterfalls – including the world famous Nauyaca Waterfall – surfing the pristine waves of Dominical, Dominicalito or Playa Hermosa, snorkeling at Cano Island or the Whale’s Tail National Park, reeling in marlin or snapper on a fishing charter – and the list goes on.

Wildlife in this part of the country is second to none and absolutely magical. Seeing birds, butterflies, toucans, iguanas, frogs and sand crabs can be a daily occurrence at Caballitos Del Mar #2. If you’re lucky, you may even witness a sea turtle sauntering down the sand or a collection of white-faced monkeys cruising through the trees. It happens quite often!

We also offer professional, in-home chef and massage services during your stay, and can pre-book any activities for your group free of charge. Sand, sea and jungle paradise – Caballitos Del Mar #2 has everything a traveling family or group of close friends could ask for.

Great Multi-Generational Family Vacation
Our family recently spent a delightful week at Caballitos del Mar Villa #2! Situated just steps from the ocean, the house is in a great location on a secluded stretch of beach and still less than a mile from the heart of Dominical. Steve greeted us and thoughtfully explained the workings of the house. The house has very spacious bedrooms which stay nice and cool in the July heat, and the common areas were big enough for us all to enjoy the couch, cooking together and eating meals as a family. The time we weren't in the ocean, we were in the lovely pool. Steve provided us with lots of tips about Dominical and the ocean. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. Steve even gave our young boys surfing lessons; they appreciated his kind and patient instructions. Nora, the housekeeper, was very available and amiable. Every day, she took out the trash and once a week cleaned the house. When we ran out of an item, she quickly provide it for us. Massages at Alegra were both good and inexpensive. Next door,Café Mono Congo, has tasty and healthy offerings. Close by is a well-stocked natural food store. Fuego Brewery has delicious food and a great setting (Steve recommended) Our stay at Caballitos was a 5 star experience!!

Caballitos del Mar

Wow.... What else is there to say. If you want to surf some great to incredible swell, be near a traditional C.R. type town without the tourist traps that Tamarindo or Los Suenos offer, this is your spot. The home was all its' photos made it up to be, and more. Nothing but great beaches that stretched for miles all to ourselves, and surfing like Dominical proper 150 yards from the pool. We loved the peace and quiet, and having a festive atmosphere and market to stroll around, but literally 3 minutes away in Dominical. As for the team of people that handled all the arrangements, from Mr. Harding, Steve, and the local reps, each was professional and fantastic. Their guidance in finding the best of the local services was without comparison. 5 stars means 5 stars.
I have to mention Jorge and his family and what an asset they were to our stay as they live and work to keep the properties and the residents in total comfort with enthusiasm. They were always available if you needed some on the spot assistance, and my family has made life long friends. I couldn't recommend a better location. Take it from someone who has been from San Jose through La Fortuna and Mt. Arenal, to Tamarindo and the coast all the way south to Golfito and Zancudo, this was grade A Costa Rica.
