We stayed at Casa Pura Vida in Dominical and the property was just fantastic! It's nestled in the rainforest with perfect view of the Pacific Ocean out front! More than that, the manager, Neil, was amazing at making our stay most enjoyable. He had the best suggestions on where to go, where to eat, and even sent us to beaches and waterfalls that were totally private and exclusive. He also made it easy to find the property (a rare treat when traveling in a country with limited signage) and was even prepared with driving directions back to the airport. He did a great job in helping us pick the type of adventures we wanted to go on while we were there. We truly enjoyed our week-long stay (it wasn't long enough!) and saw more wildlife in the backyard than we did anywhere else. It was a truly magical experience that was managed expertly.

If comfort, convenience and proximity to the ocean sit atop your vacation wish list, then look no further than Caballitos Del Mar, an incredible beachfront property that features a trio of three-bedroom villas located right on the water’s edge in southern Pacific Costa Rica.

Each of the three villas have been constructed with a similar style and plenty of local flair. They all feature modern appliances such as stainless steel refrigerators, ovens, microwaves and dishwashers. The homes also contain flat-screen televisions with cable access, Internet service, air conditioning units in all of the bedrooms, washers and dryers, security safes, and outdoor showers and barbeques. In addition, each villa has its own swimming pool that’s absolutely perfect for laying out in the warm sun and sipping hard-earned vacation libations, or letting the kids go splash crazy for hours on end.

These are spacious two-story units with a bedroom, bathroom and living area on the bottom floor and two bedrooms and two bathrooms upstairs (Villa #3 actually has four total bathrooms, while Villa #1 and Villa #2 feature three bathrooms). Each bedroom has its own private patio with magnificent ocean sightlines. You’re so close to the beach, in fact, that you can hear and feel the waves rolling in to shore from your bed and smell the saltwater in your nose. You couldn’t possibly find a luxury rental home any closer to the sand!

Villa #1 and Villa #2 feature queen and twin beds throughout, while Villa #3 contains primarily twin beds with one single bed. Each villa can sleep as many as eight adults.

Caballitos Del Mar is located in the quaint beach town of Dominicalito, which is 2 miles south of Dominical. The rental homes are situated just west of the coastal highway, making for incredibly easy access to the town’s restaurants and bars. There are, in fact, a pair of restaurants that are within a short walk of the villas. Almost any home you rent in the Dominical area will require a 4x4 vehicle to access. Caballitos Del Mar, however, does not require a 4x4 car. And if you didn’t want to rent a car, opting instead to travel by taxi or bus, the location of these homes is ideal.

There are a ton of wonderful outdoor activities to partake in near Caballitos Del Mar, including surfing the pristine waves of Dominical or Dominicalito, hiking to nearby waterfalls, doing a kayak or stand-up paddle tour on a local river or mangrove, loading into a fishing charter for a day at sea or navigating an ATV through the jungle-laden hills – and the list goes on.

Wildlife in this part of the country is second to none and absolutely magical. Seeing birds, butterflies, toucans, iguanas, frogs and sand crabs can be a daily occurrence at Caballitos Del Mar. If you’re lucky, you may even witness a sea turtle sauntering down the sand or a collection of white-faced monkeys cruising through the trees. It happens all the time here!

The three villas can be rented separately or, for large groups conducting weddings or reunions, they can be rented all together. And while the beach out front is public, it is rarely visited by tourists or locals. For most of your stay, you’ll have the sand and waves all to yourself.

We also offer professional, in-home chef services during your stay, and can pre-book any activities for your group free of charge. So if you’re searching for a fun, unique and hassle-free trip to beautiful Costa Rica, look no further than Caballitos Del Mar, a true paradise by the sea.

A slice of perfection beyond all expectations
Like everything else that is beautiful in Costa Rica - pictures do not do this place justice. Just like the Nauyaca Waterfalls are more stunning in person, Arenal Volcano is more stunning in person, a zip line is more exhilarating in person, this house is absolutely stunning in person on every level. It is one of the only properties in the Dominical area that sits on the beach side of the highway. Look at the map view and you will see this is true. The pacific ocean is so close, you can roll out of bed in the morning and crawl to it without breaking a sweat. And that is essentially what I did every morning to start my day. I must say it beats my "normal" routine of taking the NYC Subway to work. Pura Vida. The home is beautifully decorated, with smart and user friendly details all over the place - like a huge stack of fresh towels, modern appliances and dishes, an outdoor shower (!), a BBQ, a washer/dryer (not mentioned in the listing but a HUGE bonus), individual AC in each room - a sign that the owners care about your experience and want you to enjoy it. The cherry on top? A nice tidy up every day by the on-prem caretaker Nora. This is what I call hotel luxury without the hotel BS. Regarding the area: Dominical town has a lovely feeling of being small and off the grid, yet has everything you need for conveniences: an ATM, supermarket, gas station, groceries, restaurants, bars, coffee etc. If you surf, there are tons of great breaks nearby that range in size experience level. Also some great attractions like the Nauyaca Waterfalls, Uvita, whale watching, Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary... If you are looking for a one of a kind experience in an absolutely stunning home in Costa Rica that will create a lifetime of good memories, do yourself a favor and book this property. It is that good.

A Dream Come True
I can not say enough about this House and the location. It was absolutely amazing. there were 4 of us that stayed here for 5 days. The Location was perfect and centralized for the outings and excursions we wanted to do. To be able to wake up in the morning and go to bed at night with the sound of the ocean was just what we needed. Having our own private pool was a great added bonus. The house had a very nice and spacious kitchen and was well stocked with cooking equipment so I was able to cook something in the mornings and make coffee before we headed out for the day. The house was spotless and clean and fresh. And a big thank you to Steve who meet us upon check in and walked us through everything and even hooked us up with an ATV tour. And also a Big thank you to Jose and Cindy who live on the premises and took wonderful care of us. My only regret is 5 days was not long enough for my husband and I, we are already making plans to return to Costa Rica and will be staying in this exact location. truly this was a dream come true!!
